The village has a lovely squares and gardens lines with palm trees with the local cafés set around them. There is also a quay side with a great selection of fine sea food restaurants offering fresh fish and barbeques, all with views across the Rio Arade over to Portimão where you can watch the boats in this side of the Algarve.

The beaches at Ferragudo are some of the loveliest in the area with several bars and restaurants and from here you can see the 15th century Fort of São João de Arade which was a look out tower as part of the fortifications protecting the mouth of the river.
